The auditioning for the children's choir of the Sistine Chapel.
The auditioning for the "Pueri Cantores", which constitute the section of children's male voices of Sistine Chapel Choir, (the choir for Papal celebrations) are carried out throughout the year.
Boys who are chosen to be part of the Sistine Chapel Choir, are admitted to the "Schola Puerorum" of the same Chapel, equal to a private Catholic school recognized by the Italian Government, in which, besides the formal education calsses, lessons in musical theory, vocal and piano techniques are added for free.
The selection is done for male children attending third grade class, even if they have no previous musical training.
The boys selected are eligible to attend the fourth grade in the "Schola Puerorum", where they continue their studies until the third year of secondary school, enjoying a scholarship that includes school fees, books and other familial services.
After the first year of preparation, the boys begin their activities in the choir.
For the selected boys, it is a unique opportunity to develop the gifts of nature and to live an important experience of cultural, artistic, social and Christian formation.
As the Supreme Pontiff, Benedict XVI, said on December 20th, 2005, receiving the singers in a private audience: "In singing of the Sistine Chapel, in the great liturgies, we can feel the presence of the heavenly liturgy, a bit of the beauty in which the Lord wants to communicate his joy. [...]. Your contribution is vital for the liturgy: it is not a marginal ornament but the liturgy in itself as such demands this beauty, demands singing to praise God and to give joy to participants".
The head of the auditions is Mr Adriano Caroletti.
